The fuse has been lit

The fuse has been lit: The fuse has been lit Last week I described gold as a horse that wouldn't run, but now the market has definitely found its legs as prices are ending the week near a 10-week high well above $1,800 an o...

Succeed To Give

Yesterday the BBC ran a news item regarding the growing use of the Internet to screen live child abuse via webcams in developing countries. Child abuse is on the increase worldwide, in the USA 5 children die as a result of child abuse every day.

Yes there there are government agencies in various countries that can help but these children need special care which is often supplied by charities such as ChildHelp.org,who in these difficult times, live everyone else have difficulties in raising money to cover the long term rehabilitation costs.

So how can you help, well you can donate money and their are tax incentives to do this, but many people do not have money to donate and this is where the succeed to give concept was born. We are International group of budding Philanthropists who use what we call the Philanthropic Vortex to build a business and as this business starts to produce income we donate 25% to a Childhelp.org, the more successful we become the more we are able to give and at the same time we create additional income to improve our lifestyle.

I have always taken pleasure from helping others and the concept is attracting a lot of Interest in the USA where it was launched.

Become a Philanthropist

Do you know what a philanthropist is? It is a person who gives money to people who are poor or homeless, or provides other aid to those in need. Its a selfless act of sharing wealth with another human being.

Why do people give to others - the reasons can be varied but the act of giving actually makes one feels good and can be explained by the results of study 2006 study by a team of researchers at the National Institute of Healer led by neuroscientist Jorge Moll. They gave subjects some money and a list of causes to which they might contribute. They found that the mere thought of giving money to charity activates the primitive part of the brain associated with the pleasures of eating and having sex. Functional MRIs indicated that donating money stimulates the mesolimbic pathway, the reward centre in the brain, which is responsible for dopamine-mediated euphoria. Further research discovered a gene in peoples DNA Those who had certain variants of a gene called "AVPR1a" gave an average of nearly 50 percent more money than those not displaying that variant

Many business mentors suggest donating 10% of your income to charity and perhaps this is based on the Middle East custom of Tithing, tithing is the practice of giving 10 percent of your annual income to the needy. You donate one out of every ten dollars to the orphans, the widows, the destitute, or the temple high priests. However in these challenging financial times the practice has largely been abandoned. The act of helping others can create an improved sense of well-being. Knowing that you sacrificed something such as time, finances or property in order to help others in need can give you a sense of purpose in life or work and inner satisfaction.

I have recently become involved with a group referred to as Philanthropic Vortex who are pledging not only to support a children's charity with donations but also to create a source of income to improve their own lives which in turn will allow then to be able to give to others.

Life in the Philippines

Why are you not making money

This is the time of year that people start to have doubts as to weather the opportunities they signed up for in the new years are going to work for them. To be honest it is unreasonable to expect success in such a short time what one should be doing is making sure you are taking the right steps in building your business and here is a simple checklist.

  • If you sell products are you buying and using them yourself, most MLM have a minimum monthly purchase level to qualify for commissions so even if you have no downline get used to making this commitment especial as when you introduce other people to your business you will expect them to do the same.
  • Do something every day to promote your business, write a blog, place and advert or talk with someone don't just waste time aimlessly surfing the Internet or writing about what you watched on TV unless it is rel event to you business.
  • If someone contacts you about your home business get back to them as soon as possible whilst your business is fresh in their minds.
  • Learn something everyday about your business or a technique which will help your business develop.
  • Read an inspirational book or listen to a tape to get yourself excited, excitement is infectious and makes it easier to sell.
  • Do not ask anyone to do anything that you are not doing yourself, keep your business simple and duplicatable
  • Seek help/guidance from other people in your business organisation before a small matter develops into a major issue.
  • Stand by any commitments you make.
Remember Rome was not built in day stay committed to your dream and in time you will be rewarded, it will take month and sometime years but you will reach you goals provided you remain focussed.

Life in the Philippines

Christmas is coming

Christmas is just over a week away and shopping is becoming a chore, with tricycles and cars clogging up the streets, the best way about town is by mountain bike, but I have noticed lately that air pollution is getting worse, there is a definite haze in the traffic areas. Last week I delivered my Christmas promotions to the local businesses and will see if they bear fruits in the future. Ben our dog is due for his annual anti rabies shot, but the vet informed me yesterday he is out of supplies, it seems that many more people are getting their dogs vaccinated these day, hopefully he will have new stocks next week. The vet confirmed my fears that when we move to Cyprus will be too costly to take the dogs with us as they do not have microchiping or suitable blood testing to meet European standards.

The first batch of carol singers made their rounds, but we are lucky that living in a gated community most are turned away at the gate. I am still not sure of what are plans are for Christmas , Jay and his grandmother are going to Manila next week but am not sure if they will return by Christmas Day, planning and organisation goes out of the window when living in the Philippines.

Business is quietening down for the holidays the only news in this area is the announcements of a change in direction for my veretekk business as it drops its affiliate program, which mean a drop in income from January, but a promise of more to come at ht end of the year.

Advertising Your Business

Is there value in Free

For a long time I have been preaching people to take care when signing up for something that is free, because there is little value in something that is free, usually marketers will entice customers with free offers, just like supermarkets, buy one get one free, sounds much better than 50% reduction.

I used to have a number of sites where I used to offer free leads, ebooks, software and even holidays for free and maybe I have suffered from being hoist my my own petard as these methods have proved to be largely ineffective.

Don't get me wrong in this worldwide economic downturn the word Free does attract a lot more people but the more discerning are aware of the catch. If you fill in contact details in a box online you can expect that someone will contact you to try and sell you something. so you must think carefully is what is being offered for free worth something to you.

One site I do like on the Internet is IBOToolbox, I have used it for a number of months and it has a few tools such as URL shorteners and a blogging system which can help improve your search engine results. It also allows you to advertise with banners and text boxes on its site for free, provide you remain active in a social way and this has helped my business.

Yes a few people have tried to sell me on their business, but I have my hands full with what I am doing, so I tend to ignore them, I look to help people to help themselves.

I am even now working on a project which I believe will change the online marketing arena forever, so watch this space.

Life in Philippines

Financial shock

This month my pension payment was reduced for some reason and caused a worrisome time. I was wondering is there had been a change in the UK to reduce pensions. It made be realise that I need to find an additional source of income to protect me in the future. Happily it has been resolved it was an administration error and after speaking to the UK tax office it will be corrected in the next payment/

I have not been able to afloat since moving to the Philippines so now I am trying my hand at virtual sailing in the Vendee Globe around the world race. Tactics and reading the weather are the keys to success, At the moment I am in the chasing pack closing in slowly on a group ahead who have run into lighter winds. I am hoping to catch the front of a new low pressure system to get me to the first ice gate off South Africa. The only problem being is that when I arrive it could be a windless area and many people being me will be closing on my heels. the highest position i have been is 100 but I dropped back to 130 due to a computer outage and am now clawing my way back currently in 109.

My computer outage was caused by a typhoon passing across Mindanao, thankfully only a few 100 people lost their lives compared to over a thousand last year as they had warnings to get into shelter. These typhoons are part of the change in global weather patterns and it is always the poor and ill-informed that seen to suffer.
